What makes a great quilt show?

Lots and lots of quilts that's what - and we had over 150 of them on display.
It's been and gone for another year and what a success it was. No $$ figures just yet.
This post is full of pics from the show so here goes...
Viewers Choice for Friday - Laurelle Krebs

Viewers Choice for Saturday - Jeanette McKechnie

and Viewers Choice for Sunday Rachaeldaisy!

I had three quilts in the show - Scrappy Windmills which is a modern version of our raffle quilt.

Fiesta - a riot of NYB blocks

and Ferris Wheel

Lots of my students exhibited their work - this is Heather Hacker with her take on Graces Quilt

A few Deco Lamps too - Lorraine Titcume

Susan Dellas

Sandra McConnell

Rachael again with Emperors Wheel

Lorraine with Hatchet

Bronwyn's Chocolate Stars

Rachael's Supernova

Judy's Deco lamp

Pam's Dahlia

Mandy with another Deco Lamp. All great quilts that added to the magnificent display.

Two quilts really caught my eye - this was made of men's ties and was a real bugger to  display!
It was made by Barbara Thomas and was a real treat to examine closely.

And this is Rachael Caruana's - The Fall. Wonderful small quilt.
Look at the leaves on his tie!
There are more blog posts about the show here and here  with lots of pictures.
All in all it was a fabulous three days as you would know if you attended the show.
A bit of a rest for all the committee and it's full steam ahead with next year's 10th exhibition.
If you live in the Blue Mountains area I hope you'll have a quilt in!

Quilt Shows

Only nine more sleeps til all the action starts at our Springwood Community Quilt Show!
We build all the frames next Wednesday, receive and  hang the quilts on Thursday and the show opens 11am on Friday - Anzac Day. It continues on Saturday and Sunday  at Springwood High School hall, Grose Rd Faulconbridge. We'd love to see you there!
Speaking of quilt shows I have a couple of pics of recent winners. Jenny's Supernova won a Viewers Choice prize at the recent Lion Quilt Show in Nowra...

and Noelle won the same at the Fairholme Quilt Show with her beautiful NYB quilt. Well done both girls!
Maxine has quilted her Friendship Ring in readiness for Xmas - nothing like an early start is there!

Lorraine sent me this pic of her Emperors Wheel quilt. It's on the wall surrounded by oriental artwork and looks just great.

I'm off again to downtown Murrumburrah in early May for two days of workshops at The Quilters Stash.
If you'd like to do two blocks from the Lots of Dots quilt or...
make a start on this NY beauty project contact Sue at the shop and book in.
Even if you'd like to just learn the foundation piecing technique - fun guaranteed!

Up in the hills!

These pretties were outside my window each morning as I woke up in Dorrigo at the lovely farmhouse of Carolyn and Trevor. Lots of their brothers and sisters kept us awake a few nights, missing their mums.

The four days were run by Misty Threads, a quilt shop in the town of Dorrigo. Have you heard of the Misty Mountains Getaway? Same place.
We did NY Beauty and Lots of Dots workshops with some fantastic results as you can see.
These NYB blocks were from 16 different girls but they could all work in the one quilt. Lots of fun was had choosing fabrics and playing with combinations.
 to get the best contrast.

A few Dots blocks - love them all.
Fussy cutting around the centre...

and Chris was trying to use up some if her stash to great effect. She even showed me how to get that stripe straight! See, you never stop learning.
I'll be back in Dorrigo for the Getaway come September. Can't wait and if you're interested have a look here.
Check out this link for the winners of the 2014 Indiana Heritage Quilt Show. Could take a while!
