Class action

This is our progress so far on the grand piano cover. It looks really good but I'm a bit worried about the next step of making it into an  octagon with sides that will fall down the sides of the piano.

Moyra's made this Pretty in Purple for her mum and has made great progress with adapting borders to suit size and what fabric's in the stash.

 

Jenny's version of Deauville looks good too. She's made it her own by altering the layout and adding different borders. I love to see that happening in class.

Marj is well on her way with the Lots of Dots BOM. She's using the one background fabric for all the blocks and it gives a very different effect.

Now this belongs to Alice. Check out the fussy cut diamonds that seem to make another circle around the centre compass. Well done!

Road trip

Where's Galong you ask?

About 210kms south west of where I live, on the road to Young and Cootamundra.

I was a tutor at the Galong Retreat this last weekend and the venue was St Clements Monastery.

and this was my classroom. Big and so well lit from those big windows.

We had heaps of room and Black Possum quilt shop from Tea Gardens was the vendor.

My class was working on the Quilt-as-you-go Noodle Box and the results were amazing.

Lots of different styles but all looked good.

Some like Jackie even got to start on the quilting - lovely gloves!

The accommodation and dining room were excellent - ensuite rooms with table service at meal times.

It was a great weekend and I can't wait to be asked back again!

Nowra class

Carole sent me this pic of her Jacobean Star quilt done in a workshop at Tocal College this year.

It's looking beautiful.

Vicki from Idaho is doing my Lots of Dots quilt and this is just the beginning.

Can't wait to see the rest.

Interesting "stuff"

The filming of the dvd went well I thought tho the proof will be in the viewing won't it.

to this in a matter of moments but you'll have to wait til the January issue of Quilters Companion to see the rest. Clare and the crew were so laid back all day it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be.

Not one of my quilts below but this is Lorraine's topper she's doing in a class with Val Moore.

Machine applique and sashiko in the diamonds - lovely work even tho Lorraine has issues with handwork!

Bronwyn hit the finish line with her Mariners quilt and has chosen the perfect border.

Sue  finished the Ferris Wheel workshop she started at quilt camp and it's on it's way to some very lucky parents.

Vicki is working her way thru the Lots of Dots BOM. Don't you love these geese.

NYB's with a modern choice of fabrics. Love that centre and the teal setting fabric is a perfect fit.

Now for something completely different! Has anyone seen one of these before?

A market find recently and I just love it. The swans have pipe cleaners for necks and each one is  crocheted as one piece then joined in a circle. What would you put in the middle of this gem! Maybe pickled onions and cheese cubes!

A few class pics to start....

Rosemary has made this up on the go at Cottage Quiltworks and it's a wedding present for a very lucky couple.

The photo doesn't do the quilt justice. It's from a William Morris range and looks stunning in the flesh.

 

At Material Obsession on Friday we were having some New York Beauty fun

and Alison was finishing her Mariners compass block

when in walked Megan who is the "proof reader" for my Square Dance Block of the month at the shop.

She's working her way thru each month and came in to show me. Aren't they great!

Recently I was at Friday Showcase at the NSW Quilters Guild to see the amazing work of Lois Cook.

What a delight this girl is with a funny story for every quilt. Here is her beautiful Baltimore - all hand pieced and hand quilted.

Can't think of the name of this but it was gorgeous. Again all handwork.

Lois has made my Mariners Madness quilt by machine and it nearly killed her. I wouldn't be surprised if she hand quilts it.

Now for the news. I am off tomorrow for two days of recording a DVD for Quilters Companion magazine. To say I am nervous is an understatement!

Kathy Doughty who's done three of them tells me "it's a breeze".

Hope she's right and wish me luck!

I'm off to the city for a couple of days this week and attending a Quilters Guild workshop on "What judges look for". Should be interesting!
